I also finished the book early Andrea and am reassured I'm not the only one with a heavy heart. I suppose this is a real testament to Hilary Mantel, r.i.p.

My Austrian source.think "Striezel" is another word for "Stollen". the vaguely Christmas cake thingy that has become popular in UK in recent years. I'm not sure how reliable he is though as his poor Goddaughter never got striezel on All Saints Day!

I thought it could also be a 'Stollen' too, but the only one I know is the 'Christmas Stollen'. My Grandma who was from Eastern Germany used to make one, a couple of weeks ahead of Christmas, because the Stollen should be stored for weeks after baking. I thought that was too long, having to wait so long to give it to Anna.
