Okay, now I went down a small rabbit hole for a change. 1. When did the clocks went small? With the invention of mainspring around 1400. Pocketwatches would first appear around 1600. 2. What does Geometry do with lute-playing? This I didn't investigate per se, but it must have something to do with the 7 Liberal Arts. And I know geometry was long seen as superior to algebra within maths, but regardless, maths was perceived in music, too. So, that'd be my educated guess in terms of the line of research 👀
